BREAKING NEWS: EX SUPER EAGLES MIDFIELDER IS DEAD
Former Nigeria international John Ene Okon is dead.
It is understood that Okon died Tuesday morning in his base in Calabar where he rose to stardom playing for the then Calabar Rovers.
He was the Coach of Rovers until his death.
Known as talented and very humble player, there has been torrent of tributes pouring in for Okon who was part of the Chile 87 Flying Eagles.
One of those that have sent out their heart-felt wishes to the late player is Etim Esin who wrote on his facebook page: “What a sad news, my teammate, John okon ene passed on today, Calabar Rovers, Chile 87, super eagles, God knows best, RIP”
Also Emeka Ezeogu former Super Eagles defender wrote: “Rest in Peace, soldier. May God rest his soul. Great midfielder. 1992 Nations’ Cup, Senegal. We’re gonna miss you, son. So long, soldier.”
Also Imama Amapakabo who is the present Enugu Rangers Coach had a lot to say about the Late Okon, he wrote: “Good friends we’ve had good friends we’ve lost, good times we’ve had good times we’ve shared together along d way, in this great I can’t forget the past.
“My tears run endless ever since the news broke to me early hours of this morning
“We shared so many times and moments together, pained and heart-broken I am, but what is the answer to the question I ask and want to ask ‘why you,why now’? Who do I question man or the good lord?
“Pained as I am all glory to God for the times we shared together.
Interestingly, Okon was supposed to clock 47 years on the day he died, he was born on March 15. 1963.
Coach John Okon Ene, is an Ex Nigerian International footballer, who is fondly remembered for his exploits in: Acada United FC of UNICAL, Rovers FC of Calabar, BCC Lions of Gboko, Akwa United of Uyo, Flying Eagles and Super Eagles, during an illustrious football career.
He is one of the most highly decorated footballers from Cross River State.
