JEALOUS LOVER SETS HEAVILY PREGNANT WOMAN ON FIRE AND LEFT HER ON THE STREET TO DIE
A HEAVILY pregnant Italian woman was set on fire and left for dead by her 'jealous' lover after apparently telling him she’d met another man.
Carla Caiazzo, 38, has been given just a 50% chance of survival following the attack near the city of Naples.
The beauty therapist was rushed to hospital where doctors gave her an emergency cesarean to save her baby’s life.
She was also treated for third degree burns on more than half of her body.
Ms Caiazzo was attacked by her wealthy property heir boyfriend Paolo Pietropaolo, 40, after allegedlly saying she planned to leave him.
Citizens of Pozzuoli, the village where the attack took place, took park in a symbolic torchlight procession as a sign of solidarity with Carla Caiazzo.
Although Ms Caiazzo’s chances of survival are hanging in the balance, her baby girl was described as healthy - albeit weighing just 4.8lbs.
Ms Caiazzo herself faces years of reconstructive surgery on her severely burned face if she survives.
Witnesses said Pietropaolo first punched his pregnant girlfriend in the face outside the villa he shared with his mother, according to The Times.
He then retrieved a bottle of industrial-strength alcohol, poured it over her head and set her alight before driving off at high speed.
Police arrested Pietropaolo - the heir to a rich property-owning family - after he crashed his car.
“He admitted setting fire to the girl but said he did not mean to kill her and regrets his actions,” Gennaro Razzino, Pietropaolo’s lawyer, said.
Pietropaolo has been provisionally accused of premeditated attempted murder. His lawyer denied that he acted out of jealousy.
